Abuja Residents Plan Mass Protests To FCT Minister’s Office, Police Headquarters Over Serial Kidnappings

Several residents of Sagwari, Chikakore, Byazhin, and various other areas in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, are preparing to stage a protest due to the increasing incidents of kidnapping in their locality.

This is coming after the suspected bandits abducted scores of people and killed others in the area.

The residents lamented the recent surge of kidnapping incidents and very high ransom demands by the abductors.

The protest was confirmed by the State intelligence department (SID) of the Nigeria Police, Federal Capital Territory, addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance & Administration (DFA) The Nigeria Police, FCT Command and obtained by SaharaReporters.

The Chikakore, Kubwa residents on the other hand drew the attention of the FCT Minister on the dilapidated state of their road which they claimed had given kidnappers more advantage to operate freely around their area.

The letter reads in part; “Source has disclosed that following the recent surge kidnapping incidents and very high ransom demands around sub-urban areas of Bwari (Sagwari, Chikakore free to Byazhin).

“The residents have concluded plans to extend a protest anytime soon to the Minister of Nigeria Police Force Headquarters to FCT’s office and register their grievances using placards and protest tagged “SAVE OUR SOUL” and adress other inscriptions.

“The Chikakore residents on the other hand intend to draw the attention of the FCT Minister on the dilapidated state of their road which they claimed had given kidnappers more advantage to operate freely around their area.

“In view of the above, planned protest by aggrieved persons and relations of the victims of the kidnap incidents cannot be overruled as some victims are still held hostage,”

the signal added.

SaharaReporters had reported that some gunmen attacked Kawu community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and kidnapped an undisclosed number of residents.

The gunmen were said to have stormed the palace of the district head, Alhaji Abdurrahman Danjuma Ali, in large numbers and abducted his son and several others.

However, a police source who confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on Friday said the gunmen came in large numbers, attacked Kawu village, and kidnapped several people.

“The gunmen came in large numbers and attacked Kawu village, and kidnapped people. Presently we can’t ascertain the number of the people abducted,”
the police source said.

SaharaReporters had reported that two siblings of the Chairman of the Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, John Gabaya, were among the scores of residents kidnapped when bandits invaded some communities in the council.

The bandits have reached across to some of the affected families, demanding millions of naira as ransom.

SaharaReporters reported on January 4, 2024, that the bandits attacked some communities around the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and kidnapped an undisclosed number of residents on Wednesday, January 3.
