Veritas University, Abuja, has debunked reports that its 100 Level student, Mr Joshua Daniel, who died on Tuesday night, was stabbed.

The school which insisted that the student died after he slumped at its gymnasium, expressed its full readiness to cooperate with relevant authorities for full-scale investigation into the death.

This is as it pledged to fully fund the cost of autopsy that would be carried out on the body of the deceased to determine the cause of his death.

The Head, Corporate Affairs, Veritas University, Mr Ben Agande, said these while reacting to the report that the student was stabbed to death during an exercise session at the school’s gymnasium.

“The report that the student died as a result of stab wounds is incorrect. There is no stabbing incident in Veritas. We don’t know where this report is emanating from and the intention of those peddling it.

”As earlier said, we are ready as an institution to cooperate fully with relevant authorities for a full-scale investigation into the death of our student.

“We also undertake to fund the cost of the autopsy that would be carried out on the body to determine the actual cause of his death”, Agande told Vanguard in Abuja, Thursday.

Agande, in a terse statement earlier, said: ”On the 30th of April, 2024, one of our students, Mr. Joshua Daniel, while keeping fit at the University Gymnasium as he is wont to do, unfortunately slumped and all attempts by the Medical Team, led by the Chief Medical Director, to revive him failed.
The parents of the student were promptly informed of the tragic event and the school Authority, as a matter of procedure, duly informed the police.

“Our thoughts are with the parents of late Mister Daniel as well as the Head of Department and Students of the Department of Computer Sciences over this unfortunate loss.

“We pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of our student and extend our most sincere condolences to the parents and pray God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

“As a university, we will cooperate fully with the police, the parents of the deceased, and all relevant authorities to unravel the probable cause of death.

“We plead with our colleagues in the media and members of the public to be respectful of the privacy of our late student’s parents at this trying moment while the police carry out its investigations.”
