A reckless operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) who shot dead a private guard identified as Adesoji Adeosun in Oyo state, has been arrested by the Nigerian police.

The operative was arrested by the police after shooting his victim at close range during a party at Ilaji Farm and Resort in the Amuloko neighbourhood of Ibadan, the capital city on June 29.

The spokesperson for the Oyo state Police Command, SP Adewale Osifeso confirmed the arrest to SaharaReporters on Thursday saying, “Investigation is ongoing please. Update will be communicated accordingly.”

The trigger-happy operative reportedly flaunted the Resort’s rule on not entering the party hall while bearing firearms.

The spokesperson for the Oyo State Bodybuilders and Bouncers Association, Ilesanmi Osideko had earlier informed SaharaReporters about the avoidable tragic death of his colleague.

He said, “A member of the Oyo State Bodybuilders and Bouncers Association was shot and killed by a DSS officer escorting the owner of Ilaji Farm at Ilaji Farm.

“I was informed that there was an instruction prohibiting the entry of firearms and other weapons into the event hall which Mr. Soji, a bouncer, relayed the instruction to the DSS officer at the entrance, but the officer refused to comply.

“The situation escalated when the DSS officer cocked his gun, causing everyone to run but Mr. Soji was stopped by the barricades and fell. Then the DSS officer moved close and shot him at close range while he was on the ground.

“Although Mr. Soji was rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead. The DSS officer, upon realizing he had killed Mr. Soji, shot himself in the foot to fabricate a story.

“The owner of Ilaji Farm assisted in ensuring the officer was apprehended.

“The DSS officer has been arrested onn order of the Commissioner of Police, and Mr. Soji’s body has been taken to Ona Ara Hospital morgue.”
