Man Arrested For Abducting And Killing His Brother After Collecting N15M Ransom In Kano

A 40-year-old man, Abdullahi Alhassan, has been arrested by the Kano State Police Command after he conspired with one Abdulazeez Adamu, to abduct and kill his brother after collecting N15m ransom in Dawakin Kudi Local Government Area of the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, who disclosed this when he briefed newsmen at the command headquarters in on Monday, August 12, 2024, said the incident came to light following the arrest of Abdulazeez Adamu, in connection with the abduction of another resident in Dawakin Kudi.

According to the CP, Abdullahi Alhassan’s brother, Aliyu Alhassan, was kidnapped in 2023 and the abductors demanded N60m ransom.

The abductors later collected N15m but didn’t release the victim.

During preliminary investigation, the principal suspect, Abdulazeez, confessed to have conspired with the first victim’s brother, Abdullahi Alhassan, to kidnap him for ransom.

Upon arrest, Abdullahi Alhassan confessed that they killed his brother and the second victim on the day they were kidnapped.

The Commissioner disclosed that the bodies of the victims have been recovered and deposited at Dawakin Kudu General Hospital.

“In continuation with the case of kidnapping incidents reported at the Command on 05/06/2024 by residents of Dawakin Kudu LGA, Kano, thus: (i) Sometimes in the year 2023, one Aliyu Alhassan, ‘m’, 48 years old, of Dawakin Kudu LGA, Kano State was kidnapped by unknown person(s) and a ransom of sixty-million naira (N60,000,000:00) was demanded,” the statement read.

“Instead of reporting the incident to the Police then, the relatives resorted to payment of ransom of fifteen million naira (N15,000,000:00), but the victim is yet to be released.

“On 01/06/2024, one Abba Abubakar, ‘m’, 30 years old of the same address was also kidnapped.

“The kidnappers after demanding a ransom claimed to have masterminded the kidnapping of the first victim and that they are both held hostage with them.

“On receipt of the reports, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Salman Dogo Garba raised a team of detectives from the Command’s Anti-kidnapping Squad and directed the rescue of the victims and arrest of the culprit(s).

“Consequently, sustained follow-up coupled with technical intelligence-led operations resulted in the arrest of the principal suspect; Abdulazeez Adamu, ‘m’, 35 years old of the same address as the victims at Dawakin Kudu LGA, Kano State

“On preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to have conspired with the first victim’s brother, one Abdullahi Alhassan, ‘m’, 40 years old and kidnapped the two victims and collected the ransom.

“The said Abdullahi Alhassan was also arrested. The suspect further confessed that all the kidnapped victims were killed on the day they were kidnapped. The first victim was killed at the victim’s house while the second victim was k!lled at the suspect’s house and buried in a shallow grave.

“All the bodies (one of which already decayed) were evacuated and deposited at Dawakin Kudu General Hospital. The case will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.”
