Major League Soccer (MLS) is looking into Inter Miami‘s signing of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.
The 34-year-old is set to join the squad through the 2027 season, and there is an option to extend the deal through 2029. Inter Miami announced the signing Wednesday with an article on their website and several social media posts.
MLS released a statement about the signing, saying it is “reviewing a tampering allegation against Inter Miami CF. The league is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete.”

In the MLS, to prevent teams from getting into bidding wars over top international players, the league requires clubs to acquire a player’s “discovery rights.” Only a team with those rights can then negotiate with a player.
The LA Galaxy had discovery rights to Casemiro, but in its statement, MLS confirmed that the Galaxy and Inter Miami have reached a settlement over those rights, and the terms will be released pending this review.
“While Inter Miami CF and the LA Galaxy have reached a settlement for the Discovery Priority to sign Casemiro, the terms will be released upon conclusion of the tampering investigation.”
Casemiro played for Real Madrid from 2013 to 2022. He made 224 appearances and scored 24 goals. The midfielder then signed with Manchester United ahead of the 2022 Premier League season.
He spent four seasons with the squad, playing in 111 matches and scoring 15 goals. This will be the first time he has played in the MLS.

Casemiro has won 5 UEFA Champions League titles, 3 UEFA Super Cups, 3 FIFA Club World Cups, 3 La Liga championships, 1 Copa del Rey and 3 Spanish Super Cups. He has also played 91 matches for the Brazilian national team.
Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham spoke about the squad signing Casemiro.
“I’m very proud to welcome Casemiro and his family to Inter Miami. He is a person and a player that I have admired for a long time.
“He is a winner who has achieved so much in the game and after such an incredible career with Real Madrid and Manchester United I’m delighted that he’s decided to make Miami his next home.”
