It’s day one of Amazon Prime Day. The deals are fresh, the FOMO is young, and your shopping cart is still pretty empty. We’ve got two days to find the best deals, and we intend to bring you the sun, the moon, and the stars. Before you know it, these gizmos will be back at their outrageous full prices.
Our fabulous WIRED reviewers will be popping into this live blog throughout the day to yap about the stuff they’re buying and the bargains we think you should know about. We’ll also regularly be updating our Absolute Best Prime Day Deals.
I Keep This Kinda Terrible Power Bank in My Car
This MagSafe power bank has a laughable 5,000-mAh capacity, which is paltry compared to the beefy batteries inside most of our phones. But while it won’t get you enough juice to scroll Instagram Reels while you avoid eye contact with cuties at the bar, it will get you enough to turn on your phone in a pinch if it dies while you’re out hiking in the wilderness. So I keep it around in case of emergencies, and the unobtrusive form factor doesn’t get in the way of bigger, more superior power banks inside my backpack or glovebox.
Prime Day Has Become My Maternity Stock-Up Session
I’m currently expecting my second child, and at almost six months pregnant, it’s time for me to face the music. That music is the fact that I can’t keep ignoring the large purchases I need to make…and that none of my pants fit anymore, just in time for it to get colder outside.
It makes Prime Day a pretty good opportunity for me and my growing shopping list. Right now, I’m checking out on the DaVinci Suzy Recliner Glider that the internet has promised me is a dupe for the popular Babyletto glider. I’ll be quick to judge if that’s accurate or not, but I’m thrilled to find it on sale and that it looks large enough for my preschooler to squeeze into it with me and baby if he wants to. I also stocked up on a few pairs of CRZ Yoga’s maternity leggings that have a $5 discount right now. It’s not a ton, but I’d rather save a little wherever I can, especially since I bought a couple of pairs.
It’s Never Too Late to Start Skincare
As I approach middle age, I realized it’s time to start taking better care of my skin. I finally boarded the K-Beauty train (thanks, Marshalls!) and found that eye patches do wonders for my face. The editors at our sister publication, Allure, recommend the Peptide Collagen Hydrogen Eye Patch from CosRx, a respected Korean skin care company. With vitamin B12 and hyaluronic acid to help soothe, smooth, and moisturize under the eyes, while peptides encourage collagen production and help tighten the skin. I’m looking forward to adding this to my nightly cleansing regimen, and with 33 percent off during Prime Day, it’s worth trying.
My Annual Wireless Earbuds Restock
Every year, I end up buying a new pair of wireless earbuds during Amazon Prime Day, and this year was no different. I somehow have three separate pairs of AirPods that only have the right earbud. And after hearing my colleagues rave about the low price of the latest Apple AirPods, I knew I’d have to keep the tradition alive. The noise-canceling and transparency abilities are touted as some of the best you can find in an earbud. I don’t really care about the extra features like a built-in heart rate sensor and live translation; I just wanted to have a left earbud again. And I’m betting that at the very least, these will.
There Is No Such Thing as Too Many Pillows
I needed more pillows this Prime Day; I’m hosting family this weekend and want them to be comfortable. But I am also a pillow maximalist and always want more pillow, so I don’t need a crazy excuse to buy more Coop Home Good pillows. I’ve been using them for over five years, and combined with my Leesa hybrid mattress, have been getting the best sleep of my life. Or I was before I became a dad, but no pillow can solve that sleep problem…
My Gift-Giving Season Has Already Started With a Cool Kid’s Birthday Gift
For me, the holiday gift-giving season kicks off the second October arrives. That’s because I spend half the month answering questions about what I’d like for my birthday (October Libras, rise up) and the other half shopping for my fellow fall birthday people. The first birthday to arrive is actually a friend of my son’s, and the first Prime Day purchase I got was for him.
We love all kinds of toy vehicles in this house, but my son’s current favorite is this flexible track set and speedy little cars with LED lights built into them, making them easy to spot if my son sends them flying off the track. The flexible track is easy to make into a ton of shapes or add obstacles to, making it a fun choice for curious kids. It also feels like a fun, unique car instead of the usual packs of hot wheels or massive remote control vehicles to gift to a friend. It has a nice little discount right now for Prime Day, and a perfect thing to grab if you’re shopping for kids ahead of a birthday or the holiday season.
