Alexica Stevenson-Gates took her daughter’s life before killing herself

A Texas mother has taken the life of her nine-year-old daughter before turning the gun on herself in a shocking murder-suicide.

Police responded to a domestic violence call about an active shooter at the 500 block of Highcrest Drive in Red Bird, Dallas around 12.30 am on Monday.

When they arrived, one of the residents told officers that his wife, Alexica Stevenson-Gates, 34, had “chased him out of the house” and fired a handgun at him multiple times, the Dallas Police Department says in a statement.

The man said Stevenson-Gates was in the home with her 9-year-old daughter, Miloni Metoyer, and another boy, whom police did not identify.

She and her husband had been drinking and were arguing Monday morning before things turned ugly, according to detectives.

SWAT officers arrived the scene and were able to negotiate for her to release the boy, who ran out of the home.

After several hours of no contact, SWAT forced entry at 6.30 am and Stevenson-Gates fired at them, shooting two SWAT officers before barricading herself in a closet with Miloni.

Officers entered again around 9 am and found the woman and her daughter Miloni Metoyer dead.  According to the Dallas Morning News, Stevenson-Gate fatally shot the girl before turning the gun on herself.

The girl’s father, Noland Metoyer, who is not the same man as Stevenson-Gates’ husband, has been left heartbroken by the death of his daughter.

“I just can’t believe it,” he told The Dallas Morning News. “I don’t even want to think about the last thing Miloni was thinking.”

‘Miloni was always happy to see me, and she always smiled. Some days I’d talk to her for a little while and she’d be playing with her toys, and I’d just let her play with her toys,’ he said.

Metoyer told the publication that Stevenson-Gates had longstanding issues with family violence.

He also paid tribute to his young daughter in a touching Facebook post saying: ‘R.I.P. to my beautiful daughter Miloni Metoyer…12/06/10 to 5/18/20…. Thank you for the best years of my life.’

In 2014, she was charged with assault causing injury to a family member after a physical fight with a boyfriend, court records show, The Dallas Morning News reports.

The following year, she was required to attend anger management classes after being charged with assault, court records show.
