Calvin Okakwu, a final year student of the Lagos State University, has gone missing, Sunday PUNCH reports.

At a time when his parents should be rejoicing that their first child, Calvin Okakwu, has become a graduate, they are devastated over his whereabouts 17 months after he went missing.

Sunday Punch learnt that Calvin, a final year Mathematics student at the Lagos State University, left his home on Oseni Salawu Street, Egan-Igando on May 21, 2019 for the school but did not return home.

It was gathered that the case was reported at the Igando Police Station and his roommate, one Emmanuel, was arrested by the police.

Emmanuel was later released when investigation did not indict him for Calvin’s disappearance.

His father, Williams, told our correspondent on Saturday that police requested information from Calvin’s bank and it was discovered that the 23-year-old withdrew money shortly after he was declared missing.

He said, “He got missing last year May. He was in final year studying Mathematics at LASU. He ought to have graduated now. He left Port Harcourt (Rivers State) on the second week of May and called us when he reached Lagos.

“He later called us to send his school fees and I told him to give me a day or two. I sent the school fees. His roommate said he left home for school the following Monday but he didn’t return home.

“I later came to Lagos and the police advised us to get information from his bank. The bank record shows us that he came to withdraw money at the bank but nobody followed him. It was later found out that he didn’t go to school with his phone. His friend said he used to drop the phone at home whenever he had a flat battery.”

Williams said he reported the case to the Dean of Students’ Affairs of the university who promised to call him if there was any information on Calvin’s whereabouts.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, promised to get back with comments on the incident.

However, an officer at the station confirmed to Sunday Punch that Calvin was reported missing.

“He is a student at LASU. He was said to have gone missing after leaving home for school. We have radioed all our divisions about the development,”
the officer said.
