It was reported on Sunday that President Tinubu hosted the ECOWAS heads for the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
During the meeting, the Nigerian leader who rose to power in May 2023 was re-elected as the ECOWAS chairman.
It is worth noting that Tinubu was first elected to the position in Guinea-Bissau on July 9, 2023.
Governor Abiodun, in a message of congratulations to the President on Sunday, expressed that Tinubu’s re-election by his peers serves as a testament to the leadership capabilities of the Nigerian President.
The Ogun State Governor further mentioned that this re-election also demonstrates the steadfast trust and confidence placed in Tinubu’s leadership by ECOWAS.
He noted that since his initial election, Tinubu has established a strong foundation for the future integration of the sub-region and the promotion of security.
Abiodun commended the President for his diplomatic approach to managing military coups in three member states, highlighting that his actions prevented a potential crisis in the region.
“Under Tinubu’s guidance, ECOWAS has made remarkable strides in fostering economic integration, promoting regional peace and security, and enhancing cooperation among member-states.
“His dedication to advancing the interests of the West African region has been evident throughout his first tenure, and we are confident that his reappointment will further accelerate the progress achieved thus far.
“Tinubu’s visionary leadership and strategic approach have been instrumental in addressing the challenges facing the region, including the threat to democracy, occasioned by coups in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.
“His commitment to dialogue averted what could have amounted to war, which would have had dire consequences for the entire region,
” Abiodun said.
He urged all member-states to join hands with the Nigerian President in advancing the objectives and values of ECOWAS.
