Our Favorite Black Friday Deals for $50 or Less

-

- Advertisment -

Black Friday deals are popular for the big-ticket items—TVs, mattresses, a brand new phone—but we don’t all want or need to spend that kind of money, even if there is a discount. That’s why we’ve rounded up some of the best deals under $50, whether you’re shopping for yourself or browsing for gifts.

Note: We strike through items that sell out or are no longer at their deal price as of publishing. Discounts sometimes return, so check for yourself. We will update this guide throughout the weekend.

Special offer for Gear readers: Get a 1-year subscription to WIRED for $5 ($25 off). This includes unlimited access to WIRED.com and our print magazine (if you’d like). Subscriptions help fund the work we do every day.

Updated November 28: We’ve read through these deals and updated prices where necessary.

Google Nest, Roku, and Amazon Device Deals

Photograph: Roku

★ Best for Most—Roku Streaming Stick+ for $30 ($20 off)

Amazon, Best Buy, Roku

The Streaming Stick+ is our Roku pick for most people and our favorite streaming device overall. It works with HD or 4K UHD HDR televisions and sticks into the back of your TV’s HDMI port (a second cable plugs into the TV’s USB port for power). It has dual-band Wi-Fi that has a longer range and can connect to 2.4-GHz or 5-GHz networks—particularly handy for city apartments—plus the remote has volume and power buttons.

Roku Premiere for $25 ($15 off)

Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy Roku

The Premiere is a fine option if you’d like to spend as little as possible. Instead of a stick that plugs directly into the TV, the Premiere is a small box that connects via an included HDMI cord, and must also plug into a power outlet. It plays high-resolution 4K content with HDR10 support, but its remote doesn’t have volume control or a TV power button, so you have to keep another remote handy.

Echo Dot for $29 ($21 off)

Amazon

This recently-updated spherical speaker has Alexa built in. Our tester loves it so far, and says it has better sound than previous versions. You can bundle it with a Sengled Smart Bulb for the same price.

Nest Mini for $19 ($30 off)

Target, Walmart

If you, like us, prefer Google Assistant to Amazon’s Alexa, this is a good deal on Google’s smallest smart speaker. Check out our review for more.

More Smart Home Deals

Photograph: Best Buy

Lenovo Smart Clock Essential for $25 ($25 off)

Best Buy, Walmart, Lenovo

We like all of Lenovo’s smart displays, and this new alarm clock is a nice addition to a bedside table if you just want a clock interface with Google Assistant capabilities. There’s no camera or bright display, but there is a microphone so you can whisper to Assistant to turn off the lights. You can turn off the microphones when you’re not using it, and it also has a nice dim nightlight on the back. It’s smaller than Lenovo’s other Smart Clock (also on sale for $35), so it won’t take up much room on the nightstand.

Eufy Security 2K Indoor Cam Pan and Tilt for $40 ($12 off)

Amazon, Walmart

This Eufy is a top pick in our Best Security Cameras guide. It can detect a pet in an area and plays your prerecorded message to soothe them if they’re anxious (or remind them to get off the couch). It’s already an affordable camera, but this deal makes it a great bargain.

Catit Flower Water Fountain for $22 ($6 off) and Stainless Steel-Topped Fountain for $35 ($9 off)

Catit (Plastic Flower), Catit (Stainless Steel)

We have a guide to cat accessories in the works and—spoiler alert—we love both Catit Water Fountains we tested. If your cat seems disinterested in their water bowl (and attracted to the faucet), they may prefer a fountain. The all-plastic version has a cute detachable flower that can be set up for three water-flow settings. The stainless-steel-topped one has only one flow setting, but it still works well, and the top is dishwasher-safe. We recommend cleaning both options often, since plastic can get dingy. You’ll also need to regularly replace the filters (which are also 25 percent off right now, including the rest of Catit’s products).

C by GE Four-Pack of Smart Bulbs for $35 ($15 off)

Best Buy

If you’re interested in turning your regular home into a smart home, this bundle is a good place to start. You get four soft-white smart bulbs plus a smart plug. (The bulbs do not need the plug to work.) Just pop the bulbs into your existing lamps or fixtures, connect them to the app, and that’s it. They work with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa too. If you want just the smart plug, which can control your analog appliances, you can get one for $10 ($10 off).

★ Runner Up—TP-Link Kasa Smart Plug Two-Pack for $23 ($17 off)

Best Buy

The TP-Link Kasa plug is our runner-up pick in our Best Smart Plugs guide. Just make sure to buy the HS105 model. The app is easy to use, and our staff who own these haven’t run into any problems. You can also group plugs together so you can control several items at once. They work with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

Gaming, Audio, and Accessory Deals

Photograph: Nimble

Nimble Disc Case for $28 ($12 off)

Nimble

If you’re looking for a new clear iPhone case to show off your phone’s color, we like the Nimble Disc Case. It’s made out of 100 percent recycled CDs and comes in plastic-free packaging. The case won’t add too much bulk to your phone, and its raised front edges keep your screen safe from small drops. You’ll get a free shipping label with your purchase to send the company your old CDs or DVDs or used plastic cases for recycling (plus 15 percent off your next order). Cases fit the iPhone 11 and 12 lineups, plus the 2020 iPhone SE.

Totallee Case for $27 ($12 off, discount at checkout)

Totallee, Amazon

Use the code DEAL4BFCM for the 30 percent discount. Totallee’s super-thin cases are great for those who hate cases but know their phone needs protection. It’s not going to protect your phone from a big drop, but it will keep it safe from everyday bumps and scuffs. The transparent version is made of thermoplastic polyurethane, which is more heavy-duty than the flexible plastic matte version. They’re available for the iPhone 7 and newer, Pixel 2 and newer, and Samsung Galaxy 9 through the S20 Ultra. Sort through the menus on Totallee’s Amazon storefront page to find your phone.

PopSockets Sale: 25 percent off

PopSockets

Phone grips make good, small holiday gifts. PopSockets has a sale running sitewide, so it’s a good time to pick up a new grip if yours is grubby. All of these options are around $11 or less. Shipping is free on orders over $20. This is a one-day deal.

JBL Clip 3 Mini Bluetooth Speaker for $30 ($40 off)

Amazon, Target, Best Buy, JBL

The Clip 3 is another great option for portable sound. I (Louryn) use it to play music while I’m rollerskating so I can still hear cars over the music. The built-in carabiner makes it easy to hang the speaker from a fanny pack. (Or a curtain rod, if you’re the kind of person who likes accompaniment when you sing in the shower. Don’t ask me how I know.)

Aukey HD Webcam for $30 ($20 off)

Amazon

Webcams have gotten both more expensive and harder to find since the onset of the pandemic. This option is perfectly capable and super inexpensive.

Aukey 65W 2-Port Fast Wall Charger for $25 ($13 off)

Amazon (click the coupon button)

The WIRED Gear team has lots of go-to tangents, but get one of us started on the lack of wall adapters being included with modern technology, and we might never stop ranting. Like Alanis Morissette (probably) once said: It’s like 10,000 cables when all you need is a wall adapter. This Aukey one can recharge your MacBook or two phones simultaneously. For a more powerful model, clip the coupon to get this 100-W version for $10 off.

Monoprice Dual Monitor Desk Mount for $46 ($10 off)

Monoprice

If you have a dual-monitor setup, consider mounting them to keep them at a comfortable height (and you’ll get more desk space back too). Monoprice makes solid home office products, and this mount is for smaller monitors up to 27 inches. There are single mounts and other sizes too.

Aukey KM-G3 Keyboard for $40 ($25 off, click the coupon button)

Amazon, discount applied at checkout

Mechanical keyboards are responsive and give great tactile feedback—think very satisfying clicks and clacks—and are universally considered the gold standard for PC gaming (we love them for everyday typing too). This Aukey keyboard with blue switches is one of the few that retails for less than $100, and we’ve never seen it under $50 before, so this is a particularly sweet deal.

SanDisk 400 GB Ultra MicroSD for $45 ($15 off)

Amazon

This tiny MicroSD card usually retails for $60. It’s best for expanding your smartphone’s storage (if it supports a MicroSD card). WIRED writer Scott Gilbertson says it isn’t good for devices where write speed is critical, like a camera. If you need storage for your digital camera, opt for the Sony 32-GB SF-G Tough Series UHS-II SDHC Memory Card instead, which is on sale for $55—it’s more expensive than other memory cards, but Gilbertson swears by it. The Lexar Professional 2000x 32-GB SDHC UHS-II Card is a solid option also on sale for $37.

Samsung Pro Endurance 128 GB MicroSD Card for $20 ($20 off)

Amazon, Best Buy

This card is fast and durable. It’ll work anywhere you’d normally use it, but it’s especially great for video recording, making it a good option for dash or security cameras.

Oakywood Wood Headphone Stand for $47 ($12 off)

Oakywood

It’s a headphone stand and a wireless charger. The solid wood base is where you rest your phone for recharging. It’s hefty, so it won’t slide around your desk, and the steel stand keeps your headphones in place when you’re not using ’em. It’s an attractive addition to any desk.

Roccat Kain 120 AIMO Mouse for $30 ($40 off)

Amazon

This is one of the best gaming mice. It’s clicky and tactile, and there are a few buttons to help you customize your gameplay.

Video Game Deals

Death Stranding

Photograph: PlayStation

Death Stranding (PS4) for $20 ($20 off)

GameStop

Hideo Kojima directed this bizarre-in-a-good-way game. You play as Sam, a deliveryman in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by angry, hungry ghost-monsters. (We feel it’s important to mention that Sam is played by Norman Reedus.)

Hades (Nintendo Switch Game) for $20 ($5 off)

Nintendo

This is Louryn’s absolute favorite game of 2020. It’s fun to play and ridiculously hard. Luckily, when you inevitably die over and over again, you’ll just further the storyline. Read more about it in WIRED’s review.

Until Dawn (PS4) for $10 ($10 off)

Best Buy

This title is an oldie but a goodie. WIRED reviewer Jess Grey says it’s one of her favorites. You’ll choose your own adventure in an Evil Dead-like horror setting, attempting to avoid a murderer while stranded on top of a mountain.

3 Months of Xbox Game Pass for $23 ($22 off)

Best Buy

The best reason to get an Xbox Series X or Xbox One X is for Game Pass. You’ll get access to over 300 games as well as an ever-changing roster of new and old games.

12 Months of PlayStation Plus for $45 ($15 off)

PlayStation Store

If you own a PlayStation and play games online, you need PlayStation Plus. Right now, you can get a year of it for cheaper than normal.

The Sims 4 for $5 ($35 off) + DLC Deals

Amazon, Origin

We love The Sims 4, but it can get really expensive if you want to purchase DLC. Almost every extra pack is on sale right now, plus the base game is only $5. With over 30 extra packs available, we recommend checking our Best Sims 4 Add-Ons guide to smartly take advantage of the sale.

Outdoor, Health, and Wellness Deals

Photograph: Bret Lemke/Girlfriend

Girlfriend Collective Compressive High-Rise Legging for $48 ($20 off, discount at checkout)

Girlfriend Collective

I never thought I’d spend more than $10 on leggings, and then I tried these. They’re high-waisted (I have a long torso, and most “high-waist” pants barely reach my belly button), they aren’t see-through, and you won’t be pulling them up or readjusting as you move. They’re also made of plastic bottles and 79 percent recycled polyester, and they come in recycled packaging. Once you’ve outgrown them or have thoroughly worn them out, you can send them back to Girlfriend Collective to be recycled again (and you’ll get a gift card).

If you don’t need high-waisted leggings, mid-rise leggings are also on sale for $48; everything else is 30 percent off, like the Paloma Bra, which I also love.

Bombas Socks (20 percent off)

Bombas (with code CHEER20)

Some of our favorite socks for running come from Bombas. The company also makes excellent compression socks for post-workout recovery sessions. The coupon code CHEER20 is good for 20 percent off everything Bombas sells—all the socks, plus T-shirts and other apparel.

Colgate Hum Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush for $50 ($20 off)

Target, Walmart ($50), Colgate ($56, enter HUMFORTHEHOLIDAYS)

The Colgate Hum is an electric brush done right—you don’t need to stare at your phone every time you brush your teeth to map your progress and get feedback—and it’s cheaper than most smart brushes out there. You can get it from Amazon too, but it’s $60.

If you don’t need a rechargeable brush and can deal with batteries, that version is on sale for $40 from Colgate (with HUMFORTHEHOLIDAYS code) and $45 from Amazon.

Disposable Face Masks for $8 ($22 off)

Amazon

This pack of 50 face masks fell to the same price on Amazon Prime Day. Disposable face masks are not the most environmentally friendly option—we do recommend investing in some reusable masks—but these are lightweight and effective. They’re a good option if you’re prone to dreaded mascne.

Society6 Face Masks for $12 ($4 off)

Society6

WIRED staffer Kim Chua loves these face masks. (Here are more of our favorite masks.) They come in several eye-catching designs, and they’re not too expensive.

Baggu Face Mask 3-Pack for $24 ($8 off)

Baggu, Amazon ($26)

These are on our Best Face Masks list. When a WIRED staffer’s relative was sick with Covid-19, she found them comfortable enough to sleep in. We prefer the ear loop style to the tie-back style. Baggu makes awesome reusable bags too (a sustainable alternative to plastic), which are part of the sitewide Black Friday sale.

Olika Hand Sanitizer, 6-Pack for $34 ($8 off)

Amazon (click the coupon button)

Amazon will apply additional coupon savings at checkout. If you don’t want to make your own hand sanitizer, and you’re tired of vodka-scented mass-produced sanitizer, this deal on a multipack of spray bottles might be up your alley.

iHealth No-Touch Forehead Thermometer for $24 ($20 off)

Amazon

This thermometer usually costs between $30 and $50. It uses infrared to read body temperature in just one second, so you won’t have to deal with probing under a sick kid’s tongue.

Lifestraw for $13 ($7 off)

Amazon

If you hike, camp, or have a disaster kit at the ready, a LifeStraw is a good thing to include. It filters contaminated water without batteries or other accessories. We’ve seen it drop to $10 before, so you may want to wait and see if the price falls even more.

Final Reusable Straw for $15 ($9 off)

Amazon—Click the Coupon Button, Final ($20)

These are reviewer Louryn Strampe’s favorite reusable straws. They fold down neatly into the included case, and when it’s time to use them, they automatically unfurl and snap together as you pull them out. They’re pretty, they’re easy to clean, and the soft rubber tips keep them comfortable. More importantly, they cut down on unnecessary plastic. Final’s reusable sporks are also on sale (matched at Amazon)—the sporks are weighty and easy to eat with.

Eagle Creek Compression Packing Cube Set for $24 ($17 off)

Amazon, Eagle Creek

These packing cubes are awesome. We recommend them in our pandemic road trip guide, and several of us here at WIRED use them. We aren’t traveling right now, but for future trips, these cubes will come in handy. I (Louryn) have a tendency to drastically overpack; these compressive cubes satisfy my irrational need to overstuff my suitcase.

Sea to Summit Lite Line Clothesline for $10 ($3 off)

Sea to Summit

This handy reusable clothesline made our list of the Best Gifts Under $25. All of the brand’s stocking stuffers are 20 percent off.

Truth or Drink for $25 ($10 off)

Cut

Truth or Drink has gained popularity on the internet for being dirty, funny, and slightly cringe-worthy. It includes five packs of cards with questions ranging from tame to NSFW. We’re all stuck inside; might as well get to know everyone in the house really well.

All TreadBands for $10 ($8+ off)

TreadBands

WIRED staff writer Parker Hall loves these sweatbands. They keep sweat out of your eyes and are sized for all heads (headbands tend to be based on women’s sizes). Plus, all TreadBands include a tiny rubberized strip in the front, which keeps it in place while you run.
