A suspected motorcycle thief, Muhammad Zangina Sulaiman, has been rescued by the Jigawa State Police Command, after he was almost beaten to death by an angry mob.
The spokesperson of the command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, July 28, 2024, said police operatives also arrested the suspect’s accomplice, Naziru Tijjani and recovered the stolen motorcycle.
According to the PPRO, the two suspects invaded the house of one Isah Abubakar and stole his motorcycle.
“On 23/07/2024 at about 0900hrs, information was received at Sara Divisional Police Headquarters that, two (2) persons were identified through investigation as one Muhammad Zangina Sulaiman ‘m’ age 22yrs of Unguwar Ganji village and one Naziru Tijjani ‘m’ age 25yrs of Saduwa quarters Sara town, conspired among themselves and trespassed into the house of one Isah Abubakar ‘m’ 43yrs of Bodinga village, and stole his red motorcycle,” the statement read.
“After the victim raised an alarm, an enraged mob gathered in large numbers and pursued the suspects. One of the suspects, Muhammad Zangina Sulaiman, was apprehended and severely beaten, resulting in injuries and fractures to his leg and hand. While the other suspect took to his heels on the motorcycle.
“On receipt of the information, Policemen attached to Sara Police Division swung into action and rush to the scene. The suspect was rescued and conveyed him to the Sara PHC for medical attention.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the said Naziru Tijjani, who was at large, was arrested by the Police on routine patrol on July 27, 2024, at about 1300hrs, and the stolen motorcycle was recovered in his possession.
“On interrogation, the suspects confessed to the commission of the crime. After the investigation is completed, the suspects will be charged in court for prosecution.”
