Harrison Gwamnishu, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) House of Assembly Candidate in Aniocha South Constituency, Delta State, has dumped the party.
The Human Rights Activist made this known in a statement via his social media page on Wednesday, stating that the decision comes with considerable regret.
Harrison cited the persistent accusations alleging that he betrayed the party during the 2023 Governorship and House of Assembly Elections as the reason for his resignation.
He further denied the accusation, noting that he never compromised or acted against the party at any point and is prepared to cooperate with any investigation to clear his name.
The statement read; “OBIDIENT IS NOT LABOUR PARTY – I REMAIN OBIDIENT. MY RESIGNATION FROM LABOUR PARTY.
“I am writing to formally resign from my position with the Labour Party, effective immediately. This decision comes with considerable regret, particularly in light of the persistent accusations alleging that I betrayed the party during the 2023 Governorship and House of Assembly Elections, where I was a candidate for the House of Assembly.
“These allegations, propagated by the Aniocha South Local Government Labour Party Executive, have made it evident that continuing my affiliation with the party could compromise my reputation and integrity. Throughout my campaign, my team and I dedicated significant time and resources to promoting the party across Aniocha South LGA.
“At no point did I compromise or act against the interests of the party. I categorically deny the accusations against me and am fully prepared to cooperate with any investigations to clear my name.
“However, I acknowledge that for the party to maintain its credibility and public trust, it is crucial to distance itself from any allegations of impropriety. My commitment to the party and its values has always been unwavering.
“Nevertheless, given the current circumstances, I believe my resignation serves the best interests of both the party and myself.
“I hope this resignation will enable the party to focus on its objectives without distraction. I am grateful to His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi for inspiring me to enter politics and join the Obidient movement.
“I also extend my appreciation to Chief Anthony Ezeagu, the then Delta State Labour Party Chairman, and the Executive for their support and opportunities. I will always value the experiences and achievements we shared and wish the party continued success in its future endeavours.”
