Two persons were reported killed by unidentified suspected bandits in Taraba State.
Daily Post reports that the incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday in Chinkai village of Wukari Local Government Council.
The attacks, said to have been launched by suspected herders, came a day after a Point of Sale (PoS) girl was stabbed to death by an armed robber in Wukari.
Confirming the incident to our reporter through WhatsApp messages, the local government council chairman, Ismaila Dauda, said two casualties were recorded.
“As a matter of fact, two persons were killed in Chinkai town on June 19, 2024, by bandits who entered the town and started shooting sporadically. It is unfortunate that our young men are being targeted. However, soldiers were mobilized to Chinkai, but before they got there, the bandits had left the town,” he said.
Also reacting to the incident, the village head of the attacked community, Ezekiel Musa, said the attackers arrived at the village on Wednesday night and succeeded in killing two members of the community.
He urged the government to rescue the community by ensuring the presence of enough security personnel in the area and to reach out to the family members of the victims, which he believed had become necessary.
The names of the deceased persons were identified as Daniel Igah and John Bala Samuel.
Echoing the village head’s concerns, some members of the community who spoke to DAILY POST, expressed concern about the alleged way hoodlums have been operating freely in the village.
They also pleaded with the authorities to deploy more security personnel to the area to forestall future attacks.
Speaking on the attack, the Taraba State Police Command also confirmed that two people were killed in the attack on Wednesday.
The Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Gambo Kwache, who made the confirmation on Friday, said relevant security measures have been put in place to prevent further attacks in the community and the state at large.
