The Jigawa State Police Command has foiled two abduction attempts and rescued the victims unhurt.
Spokesman of the command, DSP. Lawan Shiisu confirmed the development in a statement made available to to DAILY POST.
He said the raid also led to the arrest of four suspects in connection with the kidnap attempts.
According to the statement, “On 26/08/2023 at about 0200hrs, report at the command’s disposal revealed that armed men on their motorcycles numbering about seven (7) invaded Badungu village in Bamaina town and kidnapped a 70-year-old Alhaji Idi Nagidoji and a 50-year-old Alhaji Usman Danbaba to an unknown destination”.
He said on receiving the information, a team of policemen, in collaboration with Yan Bulala, rushed to the scene and pursued the kidnappers into the bush.
Shiisu said on realizing that they were being trailed by security men, they freed the two (2) kidnapped victims and took to their heels.
He said the victims have been reunited with their families in good health.
He added that “on 4th August, 2023, a complaint letter was received from one Haruna Sani of Sabon Garin Maiyadiya, Jahun LGA to the Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Effiom Emmanuel Ekot, that he received a phone call from an obscure person threatening and demanding five million Naira (N5,000,000) from him, else he and his mother would be kidnapped.
“On receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police directed the Anti-Kidnapping Section, State Criminal Investigation Department Dutse (SCID) to investigate the case and come up with cheerful developments.”
He explained that detectives launched a manhunt for possible arrest and succeeded in the arrest of one Sabiu Ibrahim of Sabon Garin Maiyadiya village, Jahun LGA in connection with the case.
Shiisu said the suspect admitted to the commission of the crime and that he belonged to a kidnap syndicate that called the complainant.
He said investigation also led to the arrest of his compatriots, Abubakar Shuaibu, Samaila Salihu, and Saadu Iliyasu.
Effort to arrest the remaining suspect is on top gear, he added.
