Fantastic Tech Gifts for Dad

Tribit StormBox Bluetooth Speaker

Tribit StormBox Bluetooth Speaker for $50 ($8 off)—Click the Coupon Button: Tribit isn’t a household name, but its Bluetooth speaker was our choice as the best budget model on the market. The battery lasts about 20 hours, and the bass is stronger than you’d expect for something of this size. He’ll be able to take it to the beach and the pool, too, since it’s IPX7-rated waterproof.

Fitbit Charge 4 Fitness Watch for $100 ($50 off): This is still our favorite all-around fitness watch. It’s one of the few fitness trackers in this price range to feature a built-in GPS, which can help measure distance and show the route you took on your run. You can also monitor heart rate, and it’ll even measure sleep quality at night.

Apple Watch Series 6 for $360 ($70 off): The Series 6 landed on our Best Fitness Trackers list as the best fitness watch and our Best Smartwatches guide as the best smartwatch—but it’s only a good choice for dads who own an iPhone.

JLab Go Air wireless earbuds

JLab Go Air Wireless Earbuds for $25 ($5 off): These are the best cheap earbuds we’ve tested. You get five hours of battery life and an IP44 sweat resistance rating so that Dad can wear them during his workouts. The price on these have fluctuated lately, and even reached $16 one day. Even at $5 off—or full price—we feel they’re worth it. The touch controls do take getting used to, like all earbud touch controls.

Braun Series 3 Electric Shaver for $50 ($30 off): I’ve used expensive electric shavers and cheap ones, and in my experience you’re just as well off with a bottle of Lectric Shave and a cheap one. I’ve found Braun’s shaver heads pick up more whiskers than circular blades, and since it works in wet conditions as well as dry, Pop can use it in the shower.

Google Nest Max Hub

Photograph: Best Buy

Google Nest Max Hub for $199 ($30 off): When I reviewed it earlier this year (8/10, WIRED Recommends), I said the 3 extra inches of screen from Google is worth the premium over the regular Nest Hub, although the built-in webcam is a privacy concern. You could always give Dad a square of black electrical tape to solve that.

Logitech G305 Wireless Gaming Mouse for $40 ($20 off): What’s that, you say? Dad doesn’t game? He should be using a better mouse anyway. I’ve raved about how a cheap ergonomic gaming mouse does wonders for anyone at a computer, even if they’re a slayer of spreadsheets more than a slayer of pixelated dragons.

GoPro Hero9 Black for $380 ($20 off): Dad might get a kick out of making action videos of his hikes or trips, and this is a small discount on one of the best action cams. We have a review of this model if you want to learn more.

Logitech Brio 4K Webcam for $175 ($25 off): I’ve been testing webcams for almost a year now, and the Brio is top dog as far as image quality goes. There are better-value webcams out there, but if you want to see Dad in crystal-clear quality, the Brio is your best choice. Even if he doesn’t stream his video chats in 4K resolution and instead chooses 1080p, the Brio’s outstanding white balance and autofocus will make it seem like he’s right there in the room with you.

Amazon Echo Dot Two-Pack for $50 ($50 off)—Enter PDDOT2PK at Checkout: If Dad has been waiting to upgrade his home with some smarts, or if he’s been puttering along with old smart hub devices, now’s the time to upgrade, as this latest-generation model just came out late last year.

Razer BlackWidow Chroma V2 Mechanical Keyboard for $80 ($60 off): Typing on a mechanical keyboard, in which physical switches under each key are activated with every press, is a sublime experience. This keyboard is aimed at gamers and has Cherry MX Green, with a clicky, tactile typing feel.

Coway Mighty Air Purifier for $181 ($49 off): From wildfire smoke to urban pollution, there’s a lot of junk floating among indoor air. This model shares much of the guts of our top air purifier pick, the Coway 200M, and is sized for a bedroom, office, or small living room.

Roku Ultra

Photograph: Roku

Roku Ultra 4K Streaming Box for $69 ($31 off): If Pop already has a 4K TV, but has been puttering around with an old streaming box not capable of streaming 4K shows, he’s been wasting all his TV’s potential. Upgrade him to a 4K-capable streaming box so he can finally watch his shows and movies in 4K. This one is the best and even has a headphone jack on the remote so he can listen to the TV silently while everyone is sleeping.

Apple iPad for $299 ($30 off): It’s nice to have an iPad around the house. They’re great for email, streaming TV, reading, and a bunch of other tasks. There are fancier versions, but the standard iPad is likely good enough. This is a fairly standard discounted price on Amazon (it’s more expensive from Apple), but we included it because it’s one of those great tech gifts for adults.

Other Great Deals for Dad

Stanley Adventure Cooler

Photograph: Backcountry

Stanley Adventure Cooler for $60 ($30 off): Not every cooler has to be made of metal and have a built-in sound system and cup holders. The Stanley Adventure is tough, relatively light, and holds 21 cans of a wide variety of beverages, such as lagers, IPAs, porters, and stouts. And non-alcoholic drinks, I guess.

Brooks B17 Leather Bike Saddle for $100 ($45 off): Upgrade Dad’s bike with a top-quality saddle. Still made in the England, the B17 has been Brooks’ best-selling saddle for more than 100 years. It takes a little time to break in, but as one of WIRED’s bike testers, I’ve found it to be more comfy than the plasticky seats that come with most bikes.

Allen Edmonds 30-Percent-Off Sale: For 99 years, Allen Edmonds has been making shoes by hand in the United States. Although some models are now made overseas, many of its best-known models are still made right in Wisconsin. If Dad needs a big step up in quality over the usual department store shoes, consider covertly measuring his feet and buying him a pair of AEs. They’ll last for many, many years because they can be resoled and restored.

Victorinox Swiss Army Tinker Pocket Knife for $29 ($15 off): As I’ve written in my guide to the best multi-tools, Victorinox’s Swiss Army knife lineup are all of great quality. I gave the Deluxe Tinker top marks as the best pocketknife, but the Tinker lacks only the hook, scissors, and mini pliers while having the same fit and finish in an even thinner size.

DeWalt 20V Cordless Drill

Photograph: Home Depot

DeWalt 20V Cordless Drill for $99 ($60 off): Anyone who works on their own home needs a cordless drill, and DeWalt makes some of the best. I recommend this one in my guide to home tool kits because you get a lot for your hundred bucks. It comes with two batteries, a charger, and a pretty nice carrying bag.

Klean Kanteen 20 oz Insulated Classic Bottle for $22 ($10 off): I have the insulated version of Klean Kanteen’s classic stainless steel water bottle top marks in my guide to the best reusable bottles because of its bomber-tough powder-coated finish and its completely leak-proof lid.

AncestryDNA Test for $59 ($40 off): Our feelings on DNA kits are a little mixed due to their privacy implications, but parents who are interested in genealogical research really like them and Ancestry has particularly good historical info. Ancestry is discounted on Amazon, too. If your dad might be interested in learning small tidbits about his health, 23andMe is a better choice ($149 at Amazon, $50 off).

Atlas Obscura Learning Courses: OK, these aren’t technically on sale, but they’d still make a killer gift. You can take online courses from famous names, from lessons on traveling with Pico Iyer to learning how to garden food with Annie Novak.
