The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye, asserted that he effectively combated the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), whom he labeled as ‘IPOB insurgents’ in the Southeast, Niger Delta militants in the South-South, and Boko Haram insurgents in the Northern regions of Nigeria, without sustaining any injuries.

Adeoye said this in his address on Saturday at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the Anambra State capital, during his pull-out parade as he retires from active service from the police force.

The police commissioner recounted how he fought militants in the Niger Delta, Boko Haram fighters in the North and IPOB in the Southeast as Deputy Commissioner of Police and eventually as a Commissioner of Police in Anambra.

He said, “I must recognise the grace and mercy of Almighty God who spared my life till this day. We do not look like what we have been through.

“I have been through militancy in the Niger Delta, where I spent five years fighting militancy. I have been through Boko Haram, where I spent two and half years as a Sector Commander with the Military Joint Task Force.

“I have been through the IPOB insurgency, first as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Coordinator for the Police Mobile Force for the five South East states, and later as Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, Anambra state and finally as Commissioner of Police, Anambra state.

“It is to the glory of God that all these encounters, we faced exchange of fire and explosions of bombs, have not left any scar on me.”

Adeoye, who will officially leave office in May, also recounted how in the course of his career as a police officer, he received several training at home and abroad, stressing that he came prepared to Anambra state as a Commissioner of Police, “because I have served in this state previously under seven commissioners of police.”
