A former Safaricom employee, Chris Kim, known as Chris Recovery, has recounted how he lost his well-paying job on October 16, because of alcohol.

Kim recounted the events leading to his job loss, revealing that a fateful day, he lost control while attempting to satisfy his hunger.

“I used to drink a lot, so that day, I had taken a walk and was very hungry; I was just telling God to help me get food as I had not eaten that day,” he said.

Kim bumped into an ex-girlfriend who gave him KSh 100, with which he purchased basic food items.

However, his day took a dark turn when he decided to enter a local pub named Kwa Irungu for a quick drink, as he explained that each glass of beer cost KSh 25.

Once inside the pub, Kim found himself receiving drinks from others, and before he knew it, it was already 3 am.

Unbeknownst to him, his employer, Safaricom, had been desperately trying to reach him.

“A call centre manager had tried calling me. I had gone as far as where the brothel was to go and ask the ladies to sleep with me on credit,”
Chris added.

He went on to share the shocking revelation that he sold his sofa to a neighbour after entering his house at 4 am.

The repercussions of that night extended to his professional life, with Safaricom ultimately terminating his employment.

“I went to a pub called Aston Villa, and that is the last time I went to Safaricom. They really looked for me, asked my sister Angela, but I was nowhere to be seen. The termination letter was given to my sister,” the man said.

Despite the loss of a well-paying job and the disappointment of his family, Chris Kim believes that his journey took a turn for a reason.

“My colleagues are now managers, but I always say God had a purpose. If I had stayed there I would have drunk myself to death and wouldn’t have helped other people in the rehab,” he added.

Chris, who has since found sobriety, now dedicates his life to helping others overcome alcohol addiction.

Urging fellow alcoholics to seek help and avoid playing the blame game, he emphasizes the importance of facing one’s demons and embarking on the path to recovery.

Chris acknowledges the magnitude of his loss.

However, he hopes that by sharing his story, he can inspire others to confront their struggles, seek assistance, and embrace the possibility of a brighter future beyond addiction.
