Young Man Reportedly Beaten To Death In Bauchi Over Missing Mobile Phone (Graphic Photo)

Ezra Sunday died after being beaten by a mob

A young man identified as Sunday Ezra has been reportedly beaten to death by yet to be identified persons at New Trafford Hotel and Suites located in the Gwallameji area of Bauchi metropolis where the Federal Polytechnic is located.

The tragic incident happened in the afternoon of Monday when people around the vicinity allegedly descended on the deceased and beat him until he became unconscious but died on the way to the hospital.

Nigerian Tribune reported that he was killed after an expensive mobile phone got missing within the premises of the hotel and the deceased was suspected to be the person who stole it, an accusation he was said to have vehemently denied pleading his innocence.

The source added that the crowd that gathered did not believe him but instead started beating him with the aim of extracting a confession from him but he was said to have maintained his innocent stand

In the process of the beating, he was said to have slumped and lost consciousness a development that made them convey him to the Police station in Yelwa in a Kèké NAPEP and in the process of taking him to the hospital, he died and was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital.

It was however gathered that later, the phone was discovered to be with someone else who was said to have picked it where the owner who is a staff of the hotel misplaced it.

A Police source confirmed the incident which he said is a culpable homicide reported at the Yelwa Police Division which has swung into action to uncover the happening that led to the incident.

The Police source added that though some arrests have been made, efforts are on to get all those involved in the matter arrested after which all those found culpable will be prosecuted.
